What applies to a child born in 2026
| $1,000 seed | Eligible when the child is a US citizen and has a valid SSN. |
|---|---|
| Annual contributions | $5,000 combined from all sources through 2027; inflation-indexed thereafter under IRC §530A. |
| Employer amount | Up to $2,500 per year may be tax-free and counts toward the combined annual limit. |
| Before age 18 | No distributions or hardship exception. Investments are limited to cash/deposits or funds tracking a qualified US total-market index. |
| Year the child turns 18 | Restrictions lift at the start of that calendar year, and standard Traditional IRA rules apply. |
Check eligibility and model growth
The seed depends on citizenship and a valid SSN as well as the birth year. The calculator applies those tests separately from general account eligibility and models start-of-year contributions through age 17.
Methodology
This page applies the statutory seed window to birth year 2026. It does not assume citizenship or SSN status; those inputs must still be confirmed in the calculator. Program rules are still being finalized by Treasury; see trumpaccounts.gov for the current official guidance. Last updated: October 2026.Sources: IRC §530A (Pub.
